The Lady Rebels traveled to Riverfield Academy on Thursday, December 3, determined to come home with a first place trophy. The Lady Rebels entered the tournament having fallen short of winning first place in previous years. However, this year they were optimistic, having returned all but one player from last year’s Class A Championship team.
The Lady Rebels opened up the tournament with Silliman. Throughout the game their defense proved to be too much for Silliman. They came out victorious with a final score of 51-29. The second game against Briarfield was a little more challenging. With two post players out, the Lady Rebels entered the game with less numbers than they are accustomed to. If that wasn’t enough, by the end of the first half the Lady Rebels had four players in foul trouble with only an 8-point lead. After the half, the Lady Rebels came out of the locker room with a lot of fire and determination. They only allowed Briarfield nine points the second half. With their play and lock down defense the Lady Rebels won 52 to 19. With two victories, the Lady Rebels entered the finals against the Tallulah Academy Lady Trojans. Still a little banged up from the first two games, the Lady Rebels kept the game pretty close throughout the first half. Once again, starting in the third quarter they had a lot of energy and even more drive to win. They came out with a victory by a score of 48 to 26 and finally won that first place trophy. Coach Collinsworth was very proud. |
